My family often visits spiritual places and always searches for hidden gems to explore. It’s been 4 years, we discovered 3 precious ancient temples in Patna. Surfing all across the Patna and meeting local people, finally I got something interesting to let you know about.
However, many of the temples are famous in Patna with historical stories, like Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir, Mahavir Mandir, Chhoti and Badi Patan Devi, Sheikhpura Shiv Mandir (Nitish Kumar usually visits the temple, especially in Maha Shivratri), and more.
But excluding them, I found other ancient temples in Patna, which have unknown and jaw-dropping stories to uncover. Let’s walk through the blog post and discover the stories of such spiritual tales and spots.
3 Ancient Temples in Patna with Sacred Stories and Energies
These 3 temples have interesting stories enriched with astonishing histories. Let's uncover the beauty and spiritualism of antique temples.
Devi Sthan, Murlichak
So, it all started when me and my mother were travelling to a grocery shop in the evening. Suddenly, we listened to a bhajan that was played on a speaker, and our eyes were in search of where’s this bhajan playing? Then, we found a temple in an alley (gali) with a board of Devi Sthan, Murlichak.
We entered an alley and found a peaceful and boundless temple with no roof. The neem tree was the roof of the temple. If talking about the vibes, it is so peaceful; refreshing smell of dhoop, agarbatti, chanting of mantras and soothing wind touched was everything to define the temple's incredibility. In context, it felt like cosmic energies were surrounding all over the temple.
Most importantly, you will see 7 Devi’s Pindi along with 1 extra Pindi on the right. Pindi is one of the Devi’s forms.
It is to be said that Devi’s temple is 100 years old. Also,, recently Shivling, Devi Parwati Ganesh, Karthik, and Nandi have been given a space. You can visit at any time; there’s no time restriction.
Interesting Fact: “When asked by Pandit Ji, I found that too many times the temple was built and given a roof, but due to an unknown or uncertain reason, it was destroyed.
Pandits got a sense about she (Devi) doesn’t want a roof above her. After all, temples beauty is enhanced by the Neem tree.
The neem tree fills the emptiness of no-roof temple. After all, nature cannot be competed in terms of a real beauty.

Shitla Maa
The temple of Shitla Maa is situated beside Pyaare Lal Bagh Mandir. It is to be said that Shitla Maa is Aaproopi. The temple and Pratima are 100 years old and have chhoti and bari sheetla maa statues.
The story of the temple is that in the temple's yard there’s a well called Agamkua, where Samrat Ashoka killed his 99 brothers and threw them in the well. Also, the well is more than 2500 years old, along with Nav Pindi, which was established in the temple.
In addition, there was a time at Tulsi Mandi village when the well was dug and pundits found Sheetla Maa’s statue in perfect condition, and then pundits and village people did pran prathista, and from that day onwards, the temple is one of the ancient structures situated in Agamkua.
When I went inside the mandir, there were Vishnu and Laxmi Maa situated just at the entry, following the Shri Hanuman statue. The energy of the temple was calm and peaceful.
Then, after seeking the blessing of the deities, I headed towards Bari Shitla Devi and sought blessing. I also felt energetic spiritual vibes surrounding the temple, along with Sheetla Maa’s open, fiery eyes were everything to must-experience.
After then, I went to Chhoti Shitla Maa, and she seemed to be very pretty. Especially in Navratri, women from different areas of Patna visit the temple, which becomes crowded.
If you’re really looking for something different and ancient temples to explore, this is one of them. The peaceful vibes touched my soul and gave me a reason to visit her whenever I feel stressed.

Baikunth Dham
The temple of Shri Baba Gauri Shankar is named Baikunth Dham. When asked from Pundit Ji, I got to know that this ancient temple in Patna is from Dwapar Yug, where Shri Krishna, Shri Ram, and Jarasangh used to worship.
Most interestingly, here I found the world's unique and incredible shivling, in which Bhagwan Shiv and Parwati Maa reside in the same shivling, and Maa Parwati is in Gow (cow) roop. I was jaw-dropped after seeing the shivling, which was amazingly with unique 112 cuts, also called the Dwadash shivling.
Furthermore, the energy of one of the best yet ancient temples in Patna was filled with cosmic energies, giving off peaceful vibes. Moreover, the temple was built by Akbar’s senapati, Raja Maan Singh, when he was stuck in Kauriya Khar’s Ganga River and spent a night there.
While he was sleeping, Bhagwan Shiv came into his dream and was told to reestablish Jir-Shir temple with the shivling. This happened in the ear of Mughal dynasty.
Not only this, the Smadhi of Raja Maan Singh’s mother is kept just in front( little distance) of the Shivling. In addition, the temple is also called Baba Dham after Deoghar’s Babadham and Kasha Vishwanath Mandir in Benaras.
Whenever there is a Ramayan story recited, Patna’s Baikunth Dham’s story is also recalled.
CM Nitish Kumar usually visits this temple to seek the blessings of Bhagawan Shiv and Parwati.
The temple is incredibly beautiful and has the presence of ancient engraving and arts. The presence of powerful energies surrounding the area is the best thing you’ll feel. Therefore, there’s no time bond; you can visit here anytime in between 4 a.m. and 11 p.m.
